What is Resveratrol ?
Resveratrol is a polyphenol naturally found in the skin of grapes, berries and japanese knotweed. Often being taken as a supplement to improve general health and longevity, Resveratrol is a well-studied compound with anti-carcinogenic, anti-oxidative, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing properties.
Resveratrol Prevents UV-Induced Skin Damage and Ageing
When your skin is exposed to UV rays, it triggers the formation of free radicals in your body. Luckily, your body is capable to produce antioxidants to neutralise free radicals. However, during and after prolonged UV exposure, your body won't be able to produce enough antioxidants to neutralise the generated free radicals.
Oxidative stress happens when there are too many free radicals than your body can cope with. These free radicals attack skin cells and cause damages. Overtime, these skin damages appear as signs of ageing like wrinkles, age spots and sagging skin.
Many studies showed that Resveratrol is capable of neutralising free radicals and preventing oxidative stress. Resveratrol possesses powerful anti-oxidative properties, much greater than most antioxidants including vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin A, catechin, epicatechin, gallocatechin, gallic acid, ellagic acid and idebenone. One of the most recent studies suggested that Resveratrol reduces and prevents UV-induced hyperpigmentation and skin ageing.
Resveratrol Protects Skin From Inflammatory Ageing
Chronic inflammation is one of the major factors in premature ageing and various diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, alzheimer's and arthritis.
Due to increased pollution levels in the environment, you are exposed to chemical and physical pollutants more than ever before. Inhaling or having skin contact with these pollutants triggers inflammation in your body and skin. When the inflammation becomes chronic, it causes various damages that accelerate the ageing process in your body and skin. Unlike biological or natural ageing, inflammatory ageing is one of the major diseases of the modern world that can be avoided.
A study by University of Seville in Spain suggested that Resveratrol has the ability to prevent and reduce chronic inflammation. By preventing and reducing the chronic inflammation in the skin, resveratrol helps reduce and prevent the formation of wrinkles, age spots, sagging skin and other signs of ageing.
Resveratrol in Anti-Ageing Skincare Formulas
Resveratrol is one of the most powerful antioxidants with proven, excellent anti-ageing properties. Numerous studies showed the efficacy of Resveratrol in skincare formulas. I use Resveratrol in one of my award-winning anti-ageing skincare formulas, Bio-Collagen Eye & Lip Cream and Bio-Collagen Serum. Originally, I developed Bio-Collagen Serum for my mother. Over the past 12 years, I have been perfecting the formula and using it myself to slow down the skin ageing. Bio-Collagen Serum contains a combination of powerful antioxidants and anti-ageing ingredients including Resveratrol, Ferulic Acid, Coenzyme Q10, Gold nanoparticles, vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid. This super-concentrated serum has a light texture that enables your skin to absorb it quickly. It is suitable for all skin types, day and night.
