What is Colloidal Gold?
Colloidal Gold is a suspension of gold nanoparticles in a fluid, usually water. Gold nanoparticle has a particle size ranges from 1 to 100 nanometer. 1 nanometer is equivalent to 0.000000001 meter.
The Benefits of Colloidal Gold
Due to their ability to penetrate the skin and carry other active ingredients, gold nanoparticles have been used medically as drug carrier. In skincare formulas, colloidal gold can improve the efficacy of the products by delivering active ingredients deeper into the skin.
Colloidal Gold Skincare
Gold has attracted a lot of interest from skincare and beauty experts for the past few years. With advances in nanomedicine, colloidal gold has also gained significant attention among medical experts for its potential use.
The Ongoing Safety Issues with Colloidal Gold
Due to the ongoing debate about the safety issues of some nanoparticles in cosmetics, the European Union has issued a ban for the use of these following ingredients from February 2025. Henry Tianus encourages cosmetic users to check and make sure that none of their cosmetic products contain these following banned ingredients (EU Commission Regulation 2024/858 of 14 March 2024):
- Styrene/acrylates copolymers (nano) – CAS 9010-92-7, including Sodium Styrene.
- Copper and Colloidal Copper (nano) – CAS 7440-50-8.
- Colloidal Silver (nano) – CAS 7440-22-4.
- Gold (nano) – CAS 7440-57-5.
- Gold Colloidal (nano) – CAS 7440-57-5.
- Gold Thioethylamino Hyaluronic Acid (nano) – CAS 1360157-34-1.
- Acetyl Heptapeptide-9 Colloidal Gold (nano).
- Platinum (nano) and Colloidal Platinum (nano) – CAS 7440-06-4.
- Acetyl Tetrapeptide-17 Colloidal Platinum (nano).
