What is Panthenol?
Panthenol is pro-vitamin B5 commonly used in skincare as a hydrating and soothing agent. When it is applied to the skin, panthenol gets converted to pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). Panthenol works synergistically with hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronate) to dramatically enhance skin's ability to attract and retain moisture.
Panthenol Benefits For Your Skin
1. Panthenol Prevents Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL)
Studies showed that panthenol prevents transepidermal water loss (TEWL), strengthens skin's moisture barrier, restores softness and protects the skin from dryness and dehydration.
2. Panthenol Soothes and Calms Sensitive Skin
Clinical studies on atopic dermatitis showed that panthenol has great soothing and wound healing properties to calm skin sensitivity and remarkably improve overall skin health. It is also very effective in restoring skin barrier, reducing skin inflammation and redness.
3. Panthenol Significantly Improves Skin Elasticity
A 28-day study on healthy individuals with dry skin showed that panthenol significantly improves skin's moisture content, elasticity, smoothness and texture.
